About Zuess

Zuess has been with us since he was a puppy. He was born on October 19th 2004.
He is a very sweet boy. One of his best mates, was a desexed female sibe named Jay Jay. they were the bestest of doggy friends and would eat together, sleep together and spend countless hours playing together. They shared a very special bond.
Sadly Jay Jay passed away in May last year aged 9. R.I.P. sweet girl. xxx
A few months after she left our lives and this world, I noticed Zuess's feet to be getting a little dry.
Weeks passed and they got worse so I took him to the vet.
At first the vet was a little baffled by Zue's condition but it didn't take long for him to diagnose Zuess with Zinc responsive dermatosis.
He advised I change his diet to cut out some of the calcium and to also give him 1 x multi vitamin pill daily.
Sadly, even after several months there was no sign of  improvement.
I have tried mushers secret for his paw pads aswell as paw paw ointment. I am now applying this twice a day as opposed to just once each morning to see if it helps any.
I feel really bad for Zuess. He can no longer run around and play with the other dogs and finds it hard to walk, letalone run anywhere. He has a dried cracked nose, various scaly patches on his legs and his paw pads are dry, flaky and feathery.
Yesterday I did some more googling and found a site (Wiki pet) that mentioned treatment being Zinc and Methione. I did a further search on this and found a product in the US called "Zinpro".
I read the reviews on it and from what I can gather, it is very affective and also fast acting.
I am going to give that a try now in the hope it helps my boy get better and get back to his old self.
It's been almost 12 months now since he was first diagnosed with ZRD.
A few months prior to Zuess coming down with ZRD I  changed the dogs diets from mostly red meat/bones to mostly chicken. I am wondering if this played a part in it. (I should note; all chicken has been removed from his diet altogether as of yesterday) From my understanding, ZRD can be bought on by stress aswell. So I am not sure if losing Jay Jay or the change of diet or even a combination of both contributed to Zuess getting ZRD.
I understand and aknowledge it can take a long time for them to get over Zinc responsive dermatosis, it's just so heartbreaking seeing him this way...

Some pics to come later.
